Biography
Dr. Evangeline Cheng is an associate professor of Instruction in Music Education and Music Therapy Graduate Programme & Director of the Music Therapy Certificate Program in the Music Department at National Pingtung University. She is passionate about research in music, health, and well-being, especially in the fields of music education and music therapy. Her relevant research was published in the British Journal of Music Education (SSCI; A&HCI, tier 1 of top 20), European Journal of Special Needs Education (SSCI, Q1), Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education (AHCI, tier 1 of top 20, in press), NPUST Humanities and Social Sciences Research (TSSCI/THCI, tier 3), Australian Journal of Music Education (ERIC; Humanities & Social Sciences Collection), Journal of Sport and Recreation Research (TCI-HSS), and Journal of Aesthetic Education. These articles have been cited by scholars worldwide.
Evangeline has been a principal and co-principal investigator for numerous projects funded by NPTU, collaborative universities’ national grants, and government initiatives. She has been awarded a national grant for the 2025 Teaching Practice Research Program project from the Ministry of Education, Taiwan. She has won the Distinguished Instructor Award (ranked top) in 2024 and the Outstanding Mentor Award in 2023 at National Pingtung University.
Evangeline teaches courses in music education, music therapy, teacher education, and thesis for undergraduates and postgraduates. One postgraduate student whom Evangeline supervised secured a place in a PhD study in 2025. Two postgraduates have been working as music therapy students in Pingtung County for three years, and one postgraduate has been registered as a music therapist with the Australian Music Therapy Association.
Evangeline is a registered arts therapist (music therapist) with the HCPC, UK, and a certified music therapist in Taiwan by TCMT. She has obtained an ELT Leadership Management Certificate (TESOL International Association), an English as a Medium of Instruction Certificate (Ohio University), an Oxford EMI Certificate for University Lecturers, a Cambridge English Certificate in EMI Skills, a Further Education Teaching Qualification (UK), and a Secondary School Teaching Qualification (Taiwan). Evangeline earned a Master of Music Therapy at Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Center (University of London), a Master of Arts in Music Education (ranked top), and a Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education (ranked top) at the Institute of Education, University College London.
